What are Datarealm’s IMAP settings?
Can I switch from POP to IMAP on my existing email account(s)?
Historically, Datarealm has offered POP as the primary means of accessing your email. We are now happy to report we also offer IMAP. Like POP, IMAP is a protocol that one can use to access their email on Datarealm’s servers.
IMAP vs POP
The primary difference between POP and IMAP is that of storage.
POP relies on you storing the majority of you new and archived mail locally on your computer, within an email client like Outlook or Thunderbird. Typically, when you download mail using POP, the messages are removed from Datarealm’s servers. Once a message is removed from the server, you can not access it with any other device.
In contrast, IMAP allows you to manage and store your email directly on Datarealm’s servers. With IMAP, your messages remain on the server for you to access real time with multiple programs/devices.
Another big difference to bear in mind is that with POP, you have all of your downloaded mail on your local computer and so you can access that saved mail whether you are online or not. With IMAP, you need a functional internet connection to access your saved messages.

What are Datarealm’s IMAP settings?
To configure any email program to access your email with IMAP, you need to know the following settings :
IMAP server - imap1.datarealm.com
IMAP username - Your complete email address
IMAP password - This is your Datarealm email address password. This password was initially set when you created your email account. It’s the same password you would use to access one of our Webmail programs
IMAP port - 143
Connection/Security : You may select START/TLS as your method of encryption
Authentication : Normal Password
Your outgoing/SMTP server settings are as follows :
SMTP server - smtp2.datarealm.com
SMTP username - Your complete email address
SMTP password - This is your Datarealm email address password. This password was initially set when you created your email account. It’s the same password you would use to access one of our Webmail programs
SMTP port - 587
Connection/Security : Please select START/TLS as your method of encryption
Authentication : Required/ Normal Password

All Datarealm email inboxes have a quota of 250 mbs. As noted, IMAP utilizes the remote server for email storage. You must be careful to manage your server inbox to keep it below this 250 mb limit. If you hit this hard quota, new email will bounce back to the sender.
The good news is, all you need to do to free up space in your inbox it to move the email you wish to save into a subfolder. Email storage within these subfolders is only limited by your overall hosting account email quota and that can be adjusted by altering your Web to Email Disk Ratio or by purchasing more space for your account. Also, Datarealm’s has a free service which will alert you if you are approaching your 250 mb inbox quota. Please keep an eye out for these automated warnings. When you receive one of these notices, you should take action and remove mail from your inbox by either deleting it or moving it to a subfolder.

Can I switch from POP to IMAP on my existing email account?
Absolutely! Please just use caution. First please note, if you are currently accessing your email with more than one device, you will need to make sure that ALL of these connections are switched to IMAP.
Secondly, you regrettably can't simply tell your email program to switch protocols and be done with it. You will need to add new IMAP settings as if you were setting up your email up for the first time within each program.
The IMPORTANT PART - Do not remove the older POP configuration, please just deactivate the POP settings within each program. Functionally deleting the POP settings can result in all your saved email begin deleted and it can be very difficult to restore this deleted email.
