What is an autoresponder?

 

 

You have probably already seen an autoresponder in action. If you have ever sent an email message to a specific address and received an immediate automated reply then you have experienced one variety of autoresponder or another. Often autoresponders are used to send canned replies to certain types of inquires, like general info or sales questions. Another popular use of autoresponders is for temporary vacation messages.

 

 

 

How do I create an autoresponder?

 

 

Once you have at least one POP account or Alias set up under a domain name, you are allowed to create an autoresponder:

 

1) Connect to your account control panel at: http://www.example.com/admin

 

2) Click the Email tab at the top of the page

 

3) Click the Auto Responder item from the Email submenu on the menu on the left side of the page.

 

4) Click the Add autoresponder to... link for the domain that you want to work with.

 

5) On the 'Add Autoresponder' page you will be presented with a basic form:

 

 

Create Autoresponder for - The first drop down menu will offer you a list of all the POP accounts and aliases listed for this domain. You cannot add autoresponders to an address that does not already exist.

 

Autoresponder name - If you do not set a name the autoresponder will be sent from the associated email address (eg: support@example.com). If you do specify a name, the auto response will be from the name and address (eg: Your Company Support <support@example.com>)

 

Enter Autoresponder message -  Create the message you wish to be sent in the auto reply. This should be simple text. HTML is not supported.

 

Once you've set up the autoresponders that you want to use, click the Create Autoresponder(s), and they will be immediately created.
