Note for Firewall/Cable Modem users
You can download the most recent version of the FileZilla FTP Client here - https://filezilla-project.org/
Upon opening FileZilla for the first time, you will have the opportunity to make two different types of connections. You can use Quickconnect at any time to enter your Datarealm details and make a fast connection to the server. This option will save your basic FTP details in a history for next time, but does not allow for access to advanced options.
Or you may use the FileZilla Site Manager to create a profile to save all of your Datarealm account details for repeated use and access to advanced options.
On the main FileZilla screen, at the top, you will should be presented with the Quickconnect Bar -

If you do not see the Quickconnect Bar. Go to the View menu and select “Quickconnect Bar” option from the drop down list. This should trigger the Quickconnect Bar to be displayed.
In this bar enter your Datarealm details -
Host - The Host Name should always be ftp.datarealm.com
Username - This is your account login name, the same username that you use to log into your /admin Control Panel. This is what our system uses to identify who you are and where your files will go. Your username is case sensitive.
Password - This is your account password, the same one that you use to log into your account's /admin Control Panel. The password is case sensitive.
Port - Please enter port number 21
Click on the Quickconnect button to connect. You can watch your connection progress in the Message Log window directly below the Quickconnect bar. If FileZilla is unable to connect, you will receive an error message indicating the cause of the problem. To help decipher the problem, please see our troubleshooting section.
Once you have used the Quickconnect feature once, your details will be saved in a Quickconnect history. You can access that history by clicking the down arrow at the far right of the Quickconnect bar. Selecting the saved detail from this history will automatically connect you to the Datarealm server.
Using the FileZilla Site Manager
To access the FileZilla Site Manager you can click the leftmost icon on the main FileZilla Toolbar -
![]()
If you do not see this Toolbar. Go to the View menu and select Toolbar option from the drop down list. This should trigger the Toolbar to be displayed. Alternatively, you may access the Site Manager by using the File menu option. Site Manager is the first option in the drop down.

Please begin by clicking the New Site button.
In the left hand window you will now be presented with an opportunity to specify the name of the New Site you wish to configure. You can call it anything. For the sake of this article, we will call it “DRsite”

You have two more tabs on the Site Manager screen that offer some extended options for your FTP connection.
Advanced - The Advanced tab offers you the following :

Server Type - Leave this as "Default (Autodetect)"
Default Local Directory - You can configure your Site to always open your FTP connection by looking for local files in a specific place. If you save all your website files in a specific folder on your local computer, you can save some time by configuring this setting. For the sake of this example, we have browsed the local computer and selected the user’s Desktop.
Default Remote Directory - You can also specify to open a specific remote directory upon connecting to the FTP server. If you leave this field blank, your FileZilla will access the main/root directory of your account. If you want your program to remember that you prefer it to open a specific directory, you would add the folder name preceded by a /. In the above example, we wanted to specify a directory name called "images" and thus entered /images
To make your connection, click the Connect button. You can watch your connection progress in the Message Log window dirtily below the Quickconnect bar. If FileZilla is unable to connect, you will receive an error message indicating the cause of the problem. To help decipher the problem, please see our troubleshooting section.
Transfer Settings - Under the Transfer Settings tab you can specify that you wish to make passive connection to the FTP server. You will probably only need to access this tab when troubleshooting connection issues :

Selecting "Passive" FTP will help to correct certain connection issues.
To make your connection, click the Connect button. You can watch your connection progress in the Message Log window directly below the Quickconnect bar. If FileZilla is unable to connect, you will receive an error message indicating the cause of the problem. To help decipher the problem, please see our troubleshooting section.
Once you've connected to your account, you will be presented with the ability to move files back and forth from the local and remote computers. FileZilla, like most FTP programs, presents you with two windows, a left (local) and a right (remote), that allow you to initiate the transfers of files back and forth -

The left hand window shows the files on your local computer. The right hand window shows the files in your remote account with Datarealm. To Upload files to your account, use the following steps:
1) Browse to directory on the local side that contains the files or directories you want to upload.
2) Make sure that the directory that you want to transfer your files to is opened in the Remote Site window.
3) Select the files/directories that you want to upload from the left hand local window and drag and drop them to the right remote server window.
The transfer will begin and you can monitor the upload in the Queued Files status window at the bottom of the screen. If the upload encounters any problems they will be detailed under the Failed transfers tab. To understand some common problems, please see the troubleshooting section.
Downloading the files in your account is a good way to keep a backup of your website. Downloading from the server is a very similar process to uploading. Remember, the left hand window shows the files on your local computer. The right hand window shows the files in your remote account with Datarealm. To download files from your account to your local computer, use the following steps:
1) Open the directory on the remote side that contains the files or directories you want to download.
2) Make sure that the directory that you want to transfer your files to is opened in the local window.
3) Select the files/directories that you want to download from the right hand, remote window and drag and drop them to the left local window.
The transfer will begin and you can monitor the download in the Queued Files status window at the bottom of the screen. If the download encounters any problems they will be detailed under the Failed transfers tab. To understand some common problems, please see the troubleshooting section.
Occasionally problems can arise while uploading files to your account. Luckily they are usually easy to correct. Below is a list of common error messages, and their fixes. If you get a problem that won't go away, please contact support@datarealm.com and we'll gladly assist you.
"Can't get "ftp.datarealm.com" host entry" or "Connection to ftp.datarealm.com failed"
Check to make sure that you are connected to your ISP. If you are not online, connect and try again. If you are connected, wait a few minutes and try again.
"530 Login incorrect." or "Logon failure"
This error is caused by an incorrect username or password. Double check your username an password entries for any errors. Remember both the username and password are case sensitive.
"550 Could not open: Disk quota exceeded" or "450 Write error: Disk quota exceeded"
This indicates that the amount of disk space on the account has been reached. You can remove files from the account to open up some space for the new files, or you can add additional space to your account. If you wish to add space to your account, your can do so through your /admin Control Panel under "Disk Space Quota".
"Send error: connection reset" or "Receive error: connection reset"
To keep our FTP server operating properly, we have set the idle connection time to 20 minutes. What this means is that if you are connected to ftp.datarealm.com for longer than 20 minutes without doing anything, we will disconnect you. Reconnecting to the ftp server will give you a fresh connection, and allow you to continue your uploading/downloading.
Note for Firewall/Cable Modem users
If you are unable to connect with FileZilla, and everything is set properly, it may be a problem with your firewall or cable modem. To get around this problem, you will need to switch FileZilla to "passive" FTP. To do this, open the Site Manager and select the Transfer Mode tab. Click the option for Passive Transfers.
If you still cannot connect, please let us know.
